The Craft
Two thousand years of drawing with a bamboo pen
Kalamkari — from kalam (pen) and kari(work) — is one of India's oldest textile traditions. Originating in Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, it uses a sharpened bamboo pen and natural dyes derived from pomegranate, indigo, myrobalan, and iron-rich mud to draw gods, epics, and nature onto cotton.
At Vallika's Vastra, we work directly with master kalamkari artists and handloom weavers to bring this craft into everyday wear — on oversized tees, on daily-wear sarees, and on collector pieces that take two weeks to complete. Every purchase supports the artisan directly.
